Haiku is a form that doesn’t get its due credit in the Instagram poetry scene: They’re short and quick to read, which is perfect for the fast pace of consuming content in modern life; and yet, like a pearl within an oyster, Haiku’s often contain a deeper message that transcends the boundaries of words and lines.
For some weeks now, it has felt like my strength to write has been gradually waning under the stifling conditions of lockdown. I’ve always needed some sort of goal or opportunity to set my mind on, else I’d just slip into a mire of doing nothing; and that isn’t good for my mental health.
Imagine, then, how re-ignited my creative passion was after attending Poetry Health Service (PHS) Writing Workshop. Hosted by the amazing poet Hafsah Bashir, for Man Met Poetry Society members, this Writing Workshop inspired so many ideas–which this Haiku is but one of. Hope you enjoy!
